This is the city-Dalian(Liaoning province, China)my client was born and lived past a few years. From the montage, we could tell it is a modern city.

one of Chinese financial centre

It is a well-developed city.

Old Hat mountain

As my client said her favourite place is a mountain that is closed to her old house, therefore I looked at the famous mountain in Dalian.

Andrea Williams

I think these stone necklace by Andrea Williams is what my client would like, I like the delicate painting on the stone which links each stone together, give it a sense of the whole.

I like the join method of the stone which uses the metal rod, it is quite amazing because it is not easy to do that.

I like the way the designer made a band around the stone, it exerts a sense of warmth.

Material research

I quite like the touch of memory form, it is very soft and that material just let me associate with home, therefore I think it might be an interesting material to experiment and work with.

soft material research

I collected soft materials because I think the soft material is a suitable material that gives people a sense of gentleness. And if you are surrounded by it, you will feel the warmth. Therefore I am thinking to use a soft material to create a necklace piece.

Spain's COVA RIOS-ES

I like the warm light reflected from the yellow acrylic board, it lets me associate with the atmosphere of home, I think I might use it in my jewellery design to let my client recall the comfort as if she is at home.

Larasati Dewangga Putri

As my client likes drawing, therefore I think it might be interesting to create a pencil ring that has both ornamental and functional value. I like these pencil rings very much, they are creative and fun. I like the bright, colourful colour palette. The designer here uses the pencils as the main material to create the ring, I might also think about that.

Vladimir Markin

The structure of this drawing ring is concise, I am thinking I might also apply this kind of simple structure to my ring design.

This pencil holder is created in a residents area form, the gap between each tiny house acts as a holder, it could hold the pencils vertically and horizontally, which is very functional. I think I might apply this vertical and horizontal structure to my ring design.

I like the colour pattern created with the colour pencils, it is very attractive, I think I might also think about using the colour of the pencils to create a beautiful colour palette in the ring design, I might use the earth tone colour palette as my client likes this series of colour very much.

The sharpen pencil holder is attractive as the scale of the ordinary pencil sharpen is enlarged several times, it makes an interesting contrast with the pencils inside it. I might also think about using the element of pencil sharpen in my ring design.

Dalian in Chinese character

Location of Dalian

Dalian Panorama

It is a green city, might be the influence of the environment, my client quite like nature.

Dalian history museum

As my client said she likes natural materials, I think this natural history museum in Dalian is a place that she would like to go to.

About my client

I made a mood board, collect the pictures of stuff she likes.

From these pictures, I could tell she has a subtle heart, a nature-lover, she likes all these delicate, adorable little stuff. In that, I think I would focus on using natural materials such as wood, stone to make a jewellery piece for her. As her favourite colour palette is warm yellowish earth tone, I would also apply that element to my design.

Motten(Moths), Dorothea Pruhl, 2012, courtesy of Marzee Collection

I like the organic shape of left wooden necklaces, it exerts a strong natural energy and creates a warm atmosphere as the pattern is repetitive and formed into a circle, let me associate with the scene that family members are gathering around the wood-burning stove. As my client likes wood and nature, and she is far from her country, I think I might create a jewellery piece that could give her a home-like atmosphere.

I like the figurative style of her work, they are so delicate, the texture is great. The organic shape of these pendants is inspired by elements of natural creatures form such as horn, paw, antler etc.

I like the translucent quality of the polymer as it creates a very delicate texture, the organic shape and beautiful colour convey the energy of nature, the layering repetitive organic pattern is effective, as it enhances the purity. I think I might create a repetitive pattern in a necklace piece, so the area of the neck will be surrounded by it, the consumer could feel a sense of warmth from the piece.

I like the modern architectural structure of this lighter ring, it just reminded me of Chinese high building that my client lived before. The small squares are just like windows. I think I might use this kind of architectural structure in my jewellery design to insinuate high building.

Bench Pin Reliquary, Peter Antor

The jewellery piece is consist of two parts, it is a highly mechanical piece, it does not just have the ornamental function but also functional. The bench might hint the occupation of the deceased, the holes of the box and the holes in the bench echo each other, the details are attentive. I love it very much. I think I might also think about the function of my jewellery piece, as I think my client is a kind of realistic person.

Evgeniya Tsancova

I like the structure of the rings, simple but effective, the colour palette of pencils are beautiful and delicate.

This ring holder is made of bamboo in a honeycomb form, it would be interesting to insert pencils into all these holes and doing the mark-making, it must be very fun and creative.

multifunctional holder

The balance is amazing, the scale and pencil form of the holder create a sense of humour in the design.
